Support CV wind ordinance

We should all support the Cherry Valley wind ordinance as it now stands. I believe that the setbacks and noise level restrictions spelled out in this document offer a layer of protection for both the town and the adjacent property owners who may be negatively effected by this project.

410 foot tall turbines erected on top of very steep hilltops is a recipe for disaster. Noise levels will be hard to predict as well as the effect of low frequency sound on nearby residences and shadow flicker. Ice throw is a real possibility. That is why our planning board, with the guidance of the town’s legal consultant and engineering firm, put this document together. To compare our ordinance with other town ordinances, as Reunion Power is trying to do, is misleading and dishonest. Our topography is different. Therefore our laws and regulations must be different and tailored to fit our needs and not the needs of the developer.

The primary responsibility of any government agency, be it federal state or local, is to protect all of its citizens and I believe that is what this new wind law will do. That is why we all must support it. If we do not, and allow this company to write our laws for us, we will have abandoned our rights as citizens by surrendering our town to Reunion Power.
