The wind power developers tell us that nearly 80 per cent of us support wind power. Where were these supporters when the Allonby proposal drew the biggest ever objection to a planning proposal in Allerdale (Times & Star, September 15)?
Where were they in Yelland, Somerset, where 1,500 people have submitted letters of objection?
Where were they at Porthcawl in South Wales when the Welsh Assembly received more than 3,100 objections and just nine letters of support for 30 wind turbines to be constructed at Scarweather Sand, off the coast.
However, I fear for our democracy and the freedom of the planning process. The application at Porthcawl was rejected at a public inquiry, but in its wisdom the Welsh Assembly gave final say to a planning decision committee of just four members, which voted three to one for the windfarm to go ahead.
Wind power is becoming one of the most scandalous planning issues of our time, guided in England, Wales and Scotland by advice documents which presume in favour of the industry almost irrespective of public feeling.
Beware Allonby, and prepare for battle against a ruthless opponent.
