Guest speaker to discuss birds, bats and wind farms

TWO RIVERS ““ A guest speaker will outline his research results on bird and bat mortality at wind farms in Kewaunee County at a meeting of the Aegolius Bird Club at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, at Woodland Dunes Nature Center.

Robert Howe, director of the Cofrin Center for Biodiversity at UW-Green Bay, has served on boards and committees of the Audubon Society, Wisconsin Society for Ornithology, Nature Conservancy, and Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology, and has won numerous awards, most recently the Silver Passenger Pigeon Award of the Wisconsin Society for Ornithology.

Wind farms are the subject of several of Howe’s numerous research projects and publications on animal ecology and conservation.

The program is free and open to the public. A club business meeting will follow the program.

The Aegolius Bird Club is an organization of local people interested in wild birds, bird watching, and bird conservation. The club meets monthly at Woodland Dunes, and also hosts monthly bird-watching field trips to a variety of locales.
