Turbine talks in second round

The second part of a public inquiry into the proposed 71-turbine wind farm for Ae Forest began yesterday.

Scottish Executive Reporter David Gordon is expected to spend two weeks in Moffat’s Proudfoot Institute considering the cumulative effect of the proposed Harestanes development and the proposed Clyde wind farm farther north.

He will report his findings and recommendations to the Scottish Executive.

They are not expected to make their final decision on whether or not Scottish Power will get the go-ahead to the 411 feet high turbines at Harestanes Heights until next year.

Mr Gordon spent three weeks in Moffat during June hearing objectors and supporters for the proposed Harestanes windfarm.

He has also held a three week public inquiry into the proposed massive wind farm across the border on the upper Clyde, which ended on Friday.

Airtricity want to build 161 turbines on the hills between Moffat and Biggar.

However, objectors say that together the two separate proposed windfarms would bring 232 turbines to the area – creating a wind farm dominated landscape on the M74 route corridor and the Southern Uplands.
