Giant turbines are now being delivered for the new wind farm between Duns and Longformacus with full generation expected to begin in the New Year.
The 22 turbines are being shipped to Blyth Harbour then transported along the A1 to Duns via the A6105 to the site at Black Hill.
Exceptional loads, including the 30m long blades, will be escorted through the criticial sections of the route including around Chirnside and Duns where the long loads need to use both lanes of the road over short distances.
To minimise disruption at peak times escorted vehicles are to travel in convoy and will not be permitted to leave the harbour until after the morning rush hour.
The last turbine delivery is expected to be in early December.
“We aim to cause as little disruption as possible and wil be using experienced companies to plan and complete the deliveries including close contact with the relevant authorities and local police to ensure road safety at all times,” said Renewable Eneergy Systems site manager Brian Murdoch.
“We would be most grateful for the co-operation of local residents during this period and if anyone has any queries please do not hesitate to contact me directly.”
Once construction has been completed and the turbines are working, the site will be reinstated and farming activies are expected to return to normal with the movement of stock unrestricted around the turbines.
RES also say they will shortly be taking steps to set up a community fund so that the wind farm can help support local projects that have a sustainability theme.
