A $53,500 grant for Jackson Farms Energy in Fremont, according to a press release from U.S. Rep. Paul Gillmor, R-Old Fort. Gillmor supported the request for funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s USDA Rural Development Office.

“Receiving money from the federal government has become much more difficult as we work to reduce our deficit spending. And in these tight budget times, while Congress continues to trim the federal budget, it is important to focus funds on the most worthy projects,” Gillmor said. “As our nation continues to advance alternative energy, the study of wind power in the Fifth District has become increasingly important. This project would be beneficial to the local rural economy, be environmentally friendly, and spur investment in the local area,” Gillmor said.

The $53,500 grant is being dispensed as part of the Value Added Agriculture Product Market Development Grant Program. The money will fund a feasibility study of wind energy including wind testing using altimeter.
