Revised plan for wind farm

Planning chiefs will meet next week to debate a revised planning application for a controversial wind farm near Thorne.

Energy giant E.ON UK went back to the drawing board after public protests and Doncaster Council’s objections to its original plans to build 28 turbines near the Thorne Moors Nature Reserve.

The company has submitted an altered scheme which involves 22 turbines in a smaller slightly different location. It will go to the Planning Committee on Tuesday.

Council officers have objected to the latest proposals for several reasons, including the potential problem of the turbines affecting the radar equipment at nearby Robin Hood Airport and the impact on the beauty spot and on public rights of way.

In total, 1,936 letters of objection were sent to the council following the original application, along with 663 letters of support.

Andy Tickle of the Campaign to Protect Rural England South Yorkshire, said: “We are very concerned that many of those that objected to the original plans will have their efforts invalidated because they haven’t commented on the new, amended plans.”

A public inquiry is expected to he carried out early next year into the proposals.

E.ON UK has submitted a further study for the scheme which said the wind farm would have minimal negative impacts on birds, noise and landscape.
