A plan to build a windfarm near Allonby has received nearly 1,000 objections.
Council planning boss Rick Outhwaite said this was the biggest response to a planning application that he had ever received.
Dutch company Nuon Renewables wants to build five 320-feet-high turbines at Brownrigg Hall Farm between the coastal holiday village and Westnewton.
The windfarm would be just outside the boundary of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
Campaigner Simon Brooks, operator of the Manor House Caravan Park, Allonby, and a group of protesters last week handed in around 500 letters of objection to Allerdale council.
Barbara Brooks, also of Manor House Caravan Park, said this week she had collected another 600.
Mr Brooks, who will be just 700 metres away from the windfarm, said even if it was placed just outside the boundary of the AONB it was still spoiling the area.
Bed and breakfast operator Alan Philipson said”If we are going to build a tourist industry here we have to hang on to our greatest asset – our scenery.”
Mr Philipson said he had not found any business people in Allonby who were not opposed to the scheme.
Some objections from other parts of the country had come from his customers who said they would not want to visit the Solway in future if they were forced to look out on to a large windfarm.
Chris Ranner, Nuon development manager, said: “We have arrived at a final proposal which I am confident is of the scale, size and detailing appropriate to the area and this location.”
