David Bellamy supports wind farm opponents

Leading conservationist David Bellamy will be the guest speaker at an open meeting called by opponents of controversial wind farm plans for the East Riding.

Organisers are hoping that large numbers of residents will go along to hear Dr Bellamy address next Monday’s meeting at the Far Grange Caravan Park at Skipsea.

They have distributed hundreds of leaflets in local villages affected by windfarm proposals, including the proposed site at the nearby former Lissett Airfield, where Novera Energy has submitted a planning application to build 12 wind turbines.

The company claims the site would generate enough energy to power a town the size of Bridlington, but some residents have claimed the scheme would blight the landscape.

David Bellamy will talk about the environmental and social impact of wind turbines.

The meeting will also hear from Bob Graham, chairman of the Highlands Against Wind Farms group.

Councillors and senior officers of East Riding Council have also been invited to the meeting at Far Grange leisure centre, starting at 7pm.

The planning application for the Lissett site is due to be considered next month or in November, and further plans in the pipeline for the East Riding include proposals for a 43 turbine development on farmland near Skerne
