Wind farm protesters air their concerns

The latest round of consultations over a controversial wind farm scheme have taken place.

Members of the public were given the opportunity to look at the development of the 12-turbine site proposed for Lissett airfield at a public meeting at Rickaby Hall, Ulrome.

Some members of STiER, or Stop Turbines in East Riding, the group opposing the construction of the turbines, attended the meeting to air their concerns.

No open meeting between STiER and Novera Energy, who are planning the site, has yet taken place.

Tony Buxton, of Novera Energy, said: “We’ve been very straight with people. Our people will see them, we’ve said we will.

“It’s a bit of a shame that they are not prepared to engage in discussion.”

Graham Moore, of STiER, said: “We are not against renewable energy, we just want it in a more respectable area where it won’t affect people and split communities.

“There’s a lot of atmosphere in the villages and some people won’t say how they feel as they are employed by these people.
“They (Novera) have a very clever way of putting things forward.”

The latest development in the plan sees the size of the site reduced to help allay fears that it will be extended after the initial turbines are constructed.

They have also promised to plant woodland in around villages that would be most visually affected by the turbines.

The wind farms planning application should be decided by East Riding of Yorkshire Council before the end of the year.
