Blade components needed to complete 10 wind turbines at province’s new East Point energy farm.

SOURIS – A freighter arrived in port from Denmark this week carrying 30 blade components for the province’s new wind energy farm at East Point.
That makes up the full complement of tower cylinders and blades needed to complete the 10 wind turbines slated for the site.
The parts will be stored at a location adjacent to the harbour until the end of the month.
When assembled, the V-90 Vestas turbines will stand 80 metres high, and produce 90 million kilowatt hours of electricity. The cost of the project is $56 million.
Site preparation is taking place now. It spans across 12 adjoining properties along the north shore near North Lake.
Carl Brothers with Frontier Power Systems is heading the project. He said two of the 10 foundations are under construction and another two or three will be underway this week.
“We expect to see the equipment delivered from its storage location at Souris Harbour by the week of September 25, and serious assembly construction start by the second week of October.”
He anticipates that the turbines will begin generating power into the P.E.I. grid by the end of this year.
The energy generated from the 30-megawatt Eastern Kings site, combined with the wind farm in North Cape, will boost total power generation on P.E.I. by approximately 12 per cent
