Windfarm plans top of agenda

www.cumberland-news.co.uk

Plans for a windfarm close to the M6 near Shap were being debated at a public meeting last night.

Gamesa Energy UK wants to build an energy park which would have up to 12 turbines and a cluster of solar energy cells.

The company is drawing up a planning bid for the Shap Renewable Energy Park which could go before Eden council planners before the end of the year.

However, a protest group, Communities Opposed to Shap Turbines (Cost), has already been set up and was hosting the meeting in Shap memorial hall.

Speakers included a representative from the Renewable Energy Foundation and those who live close to other windfarms in the county.
