Green group backing windfarm for village

An environmental campaign group has thrown its support behind energy giant Npower’s plans to build a five-turbine windfarm in Rainworth
.
The controversial proposals have sparked fury from local campaigners, who say the 125-foot high turbines proposed for Lindhurst Farm will tower over homes and cause constant disruption for residents.

But the Sustainable Energy Alliance (SEA) says the turbines would be ‘really exciting’ for the Mansfield area by putting it at the front of the fight against climate change.

Said Mansfield-born SEA spokesman Jonathan Lincoln: “Energy conservation and renewable technologies such as wind, solar and hydro offer us a solution ““”“ and wind power is the most easily implemented and most cost-effective.

“The building of this wind farm, in a bid to reduce carbon dioxide, is a step in the right direction and a step we must take.”

And he dismissed claims that the wind turbines would create a local ‘eyesore’ – instead describing them as ‘beautiful structures’.

“Wind turbines are iconic, and signify an important change in our attitude towards the environment.

“It is time we thought about the bigger picture for the sake of generations to come ““”“ and Mansfield has a chance to be a part of that picture,” he said.
