Wind farm protesters have hit out angrily at an energy firm for continuing to push for turbines on the Dengie. Last week the Chronicle reported that npower renewables has lodged an appeal with the Government’s planning inspectorate to reverse Maldon District Council’s decision to refuse the installation of 10 wind turbines in Bradwell-on-Sea.
Anti wind farm group BATTLE (Bradwell And Tillingham Tackling Lost Environments) has reacted angrily at the move, dubbing npower “arrogant”.
BATTLE has been fighting the planning application since it was first submitted in January last year and its chairman Neil Yates claims this new appeal goes against the democratic process.
He said: “We are disappointed but not surprised by the appeal.
“We have talked before about how arrogant npower is – they don’t care a jot for democracy or the wishes of local people.
“We have got planning officers and many other people saying the proposed wind farm is in the wrong place. Unfortunately npower put money before the environment and their assertion Essex needs wind power is just a smokescreen.
“We are going to take our time and plan our next move. We are recruiting experts to help us and will fight the appeal all the way.”
While the appeal has been lodged it has not been officially accepted by the planning inspectorate yet and any review of the application could take months.
