CAMPAIGNERS have launched a battle to fight plans for a wind farm in the heart of a famous Borders beauty spot.
Airtricity have targeted the hills above the Ale Valley near Akermoor Loch, about ten miles from Hawick, for a wind farm which will have ten 121m-high turbines covering a site of 1,500 hectares.
Objectors say the turbines, which will be visible from a ten-mile radius, will ruin the scenery around Roberton and Ashkirk.
There are concerns the development will be rubber-stamped by the Scottish Executive, which recently overruled objections by Scottish Borders Council for a wind farm near Stow.
Deborah Bohn, who is leading the campaign, said Roberton attracts thousands of visitors each year to visit the site immortalised in the poem The Road to Roberton by Will Ogilvie.
