Wind turbines: intrusive, expensive fig leaves

I must express my feelings about the letters about the proposed wind farms that appeared in the Gazette of January 19, and some of the inaccuracies and misconceptions contained in them. Phil Russell, the artist, in defending his work, says that “Middlemoor, at 18 turbines, each producing 3MW gives 54MW” and he makes the same calculation for the Wandylaw proposal’s 10 turbines. Unfortunately, Mr Russell is making the same mistake made by many people in not recognising the difference between . . . Complete story »

Park fears over 125-turbine windfarm plan

"The towers are half the height of the hills. The proposal is massively out-of-scale with the surrounding environment and totally contradicts the amenities which surround it. They are marketing this as an environmentally friendly thing but it is not." Complete story »

While the flames were initially contained at the top of the structure, falling debris caused the fire to spread to the grass below. Mike Kemp from the Country Fire Service says it is now up to engineers to determine an exact cause and whether parts of the turbine can be . . . Complete story »

First wind farm in N.H. about to open

Lisa Linowes of National Wind Watch says a project on the scale of Loranger's isn't nearly as bad as some. But if it succeeds, she predicts big companies will try to move in to capitalize on the resource. Complete story »

Enormous wind towers a poor power choice

This battle has been fought for decades, first with the billboard campaign, again with the "ridgeline" highway campaign, and now with enormous industrial turbines. In our hearts we believe the Legislature and the governor will protect our state's beauty and our heritage as our forefathers, legislators and governors before us. Complete story »
