Washington Township officials signed off on an ordinance

Washington Township officials signed off on an ordinance that outlines an agreement with Allegheny Ridge Wind Farm LLC, a division of Spain’s Gamesa Corp., to erect as many as 60 of the 300-foot-tall windmills in the area about 20 miles southwest of Pittsburgh.
Officials also approved a general ordinance to govern the development of wind energy in the township.
Several other municipalities have been negotiating agreements with the company.
Portage Township, about 70 miles east of Pittsburgh, is getting $3,000 per windmill per year for the next 30 years under an agreement.
