Wind Action Group voice concerns
Opposition to wind farms is not a ‘NIMBY’ issue, Oxford residents told a travelling legislative committee hearing on the Green Energy Act. Oxford Wind Action Group’s Joan Morris spoke to the Standing Committee on General Government April 15 in London, telling them of her group’s concerns the omnibus bill would eradicate landowner’s rights, threaten agricultural lands and threaten public health in the name of making the development of ‘green’ energy easier. Its opposition is not drawn ...

Company reveals plans to develop major, industrial wind energy generating facility; Chicago company targeting Sweden, Allegany and Ulysses townships in Potter County
Plans for development of a major industrial wind energy generating facility were revealed during a recent meeting of the Allegany Township Board of Supervisors in Potter County. A Chicago-based company, Invenergy, would like to build thirty, 400-foot-high wind turbines in Sweden, Allegany and western Ulysses townships. Impact of Għadira wind farms
I read with interest Alan Deidun’s article on the proposed wind farms (April 30). He quickly dismisses visual impact as being a subjective issue. As yet there are no wind farms in Malta and it is very difficult for the people to visualise what it will look like. Each turbine is 120 metres high compared to the Portomaso Tower which is 98 metres high. What will be the visual impact of having 19 structures each the size of Portomaso tower ...

Energy bill will hurt consumers
The April 23 Free Press editorial supporting a House energy bill that would force Vermonters to pay rates well above market prices for expensive renewable energy sources fails to recognize the difficult economic times we are facing. The legislation places an unfair burden on working families to benefit energy entrepreneurs. To portray concerns about legislation that will drive up energy costs as “partisan” and “squealing” misses the point entirely — we need to make Vermont more affordable, and subsidizing renewable energy ...

Cohocton official wants to know why no notice for construction
First Wind officials hope to get their 125-megawatt wind power plant in Cohocton back up and running after less than five months in service, but town officials are not backing down over what they see as violations of the project’s special use permits. Cohocton town Supervisor Jack Zigenfus announced at the town board’s meeting Monday the construction work is restarting and town officials are looking to see what will become of the project. “Clipper Windpower, the turbine manufacturer, is conducting reinforcement work ...

Wind turbines prohibited in Lavale
A significant part of a report this week on wind farms, was the revelation that five to seven wind turbines in the proposed Dan’s Mountain wind farm are actually in the Lavale limits. The map is different than a 1925 U.S. Geological Survey map. Wind turbines are prohibited in Lavale and this latest development could kill the plans of U.S. Wind Force as company representatives have said the project can’t move forward if any additional turbines are eliminated. It's an ill wind in Colebrook; Zoning loophole allows preliminary work for wind turbines without local debate
COLEBROOK — — Renewable energy is now an American mantra, but homeowner Stephen King has learned that a legal limbo awaits anyone who wakes up to discover that a wind farm might be going up next door. Because of a loophole that allows zoning boards to approve test towers for wind turbines without notifying neighbors, residents near terrain favorable for wind energy could face the prospect of a major wind energy project being built in their community with limited ability to ...

Bill could create fair winds for turbine projects in Massachusetts
The Patrick administration’s long-term goal to get hundreds of wind towers built in the state could become a whole lot easier if a fast-track permitting bill that the administration is pushing on Beacon Hill becomes law.    The bill could essentially give the administration the power to override local authorities for projects slated for certain areas. The administration would pick these designated areas that would be appropriate for wind turbines, factoring in wind strength and the possible impact on the surroundings.    ...
