They’re Not Green 

They’re Not Green Episode 1 takes the viewer to Palm Springs California where the wind power industry began in the United States. In the 1970s, the Oil Embargo, OPEC, President Jimmy Carter, CA Governor Jerry Brown all contributed to the industrialization of wind power. Unfortunately, the rural communities have become victims of the industrial wind developers.

Tax subsidies, global warming, renewable energy targets, allowed big wind power developers to install over 4,000 wind turbines in Palm Springs alone. When the wind doesn’t blow, the blades don’t turn, no energy is produced.

Wind power–dominated countries will be left with millions of tons of scrap metal which cannot be recycled. Burning wind turbine blades spew toxic fumes.

For over 20 years, Riverside Country Supervisors and the Palm Springs City Council have changed land use variances in favor of wind power developers. They have ignored the California Energy Commission Recommendations for Wind Turbine Setbacks to Residential Structures.

Politicians ignore the voices of their constituents regarding windmills. The wind turbines kill birds and bats. The Leaf-Nosed Bat, once abundant in Southern California, has disappeared from the desert by San Jacinto Mountains.

Golden Eagles along with thousand of other birds are killed yearly by wind turbines at Altamont Pass. Dr. Shawn Smallwood, biologist, has collected data on the bird fatalities at Altamont Pass since 1999. He is convinced that the process of approving Wind Farms in rural communities has become corrupt.

Episode 7: Foreign Wind Power Developer, Spanish Iberdrola, and Oregon based PPM get wind turbine variances changed by the Palm Springs City in order to install new windmills. City Council Members received campaign funds from the Developers. Wind Power provides less than 2% of electrical energy for Palm Springs. There are 16 other states with greater wind potential than California.

Episode 8: Wind power developers promise jobs to locals in Palm Springs, and instead they hire outside contractors. Safety becomes an issue. A worker is killed. Hundreds of millions of dollars are being spent on wind turbines, but few permanent jobs are created.

Episode 9: Industrial wind power spread across the U.S. like a virus. The California Energy Commission reports there are barriers to renewable energy. Wind is variable. Wind cannot be relied on to meet rapid changes in load and supply. Wind must be backed up with dispatchable sources.

Episode 10: Dr. Nina Pierpont, physician and scientist, conducted hundreds of surveys on residents who live near wind turbines. They all expressed similar symptoms. Dr. Pierpont and other scientists call it Wind Turbine Syndrome. Headaches, sleeplessness, nausea, vertigo, were a few of the symptoms.
