Regional Field Verification — Operational Results from Four Small Wind Turbines in the Pacific Northwest

Sinclair, K.; and Raker, J.

Bergey Excel S (10kW) wind turbines were installed at sites in the Pacific Northwest. Each installation was instrumented with data acquisition systems to collect a minimum of two years of operating data.

Performance Data (kWh/y):

Turbine 1, Stanford, Mont., Jan. 2004 to Dec. 2005
Based on predicted wind speed: 18,034
Based on measured wind speed: 15,969
Actual measured annual energy production: 11,389
–63% of predicted, 71% of measured-wind estimate

Turbine 2, Goldendale, Wash., Jan. 2004 to Dec. 2005
Based on predicted wind speed: 18,485
Based on measured wind speed: 17,473
Actual measured annual energy production: 12,577
–68% of predicted, 72% of measured-wind estimate

Turbine 3, Chester, Mont., Feb. 2004 to Feb. 2006
Based on predicted wind speed: 16,242
Based on measured wind speed: 9,786
Actual measured annual energy production: 7,926
–49% of predicted, 81% of measured-wind estimate

Turbine 4, Browning, Mont., Feb. 2004 to Feb. 2006
Based on predicted wind speed: 15,959
Based on measured wind speed: 15,679
Actual measured annual energy production: 8,424
–53% of predicted, 54% of measured-wind estimate
