Oregon ballot initiative to count hydropower as renewable

Oregonians for Renewable Power

IP3 is a citizen initiative for the November 2014 ballot. It would simply recognize all hydro-electric power as a renewable energy under the state’s renewable energy portfolio law that requires a certain percentage of a utility’s power comes from renewable energy sources.

Here [1] you’ll learn about IP3 or the “Hydro as Renewable Energy” Act. You’ll find out why IP3 makes sense and how you can join with other to put this citizens’ initiative on the November 2014. You can download a petition to sign for yourself or find out the dos and don’ts of gathering signatures as a volunteer. Or, you can donate so that our campaign’s signature gatherers can collect the required 87,213 signatures needed to qualify for the ballot.

Who are we? We are “Oregonians for Renewable Power” We represent consumer and producer groups that believe local, sustainable and affordable hydropower is one of Oregon’s natural advantages and should figure prominently in the state’s energy plans and efforts to recruit businesses and jobs from outside Oregon. We think it’s important to do all we can to keep Oregon’s power rates low and to promote sustainable, renewable energy sources. IP3 does this without resorting to public subsidies and tax giveaways.
