Montgomeryshire Against Pylons et al.
Tuesday 24th May, National Assembly for Wales, Senedd Building, Cardiff Bay CF99 1NA
Coaches leaving from all points in Montgomeryshire. Please see below for more information and contact details.
We are all affected in Montgomeryshire, so please join us in Cardiff to STOP:
1000s of extra vehicle journeys for turbines, hub and pylons on our county’s roads which will choke Montgomeryshire and routes to the Cambrian Coast.
Damage to our roads, bridges and homes
Roads, roundabouts and bridges will have to be upgraded and hedgerows ripped out to cope with the transportation of the windfarms, pylons and the 240 tonne transformer at the substation site.
Landscape & habitat being destroyed
We live in one of the most beautiful parts of the UK, with stunning landscapes and a rich diversity of wildlife. 400ft turbines and 150ft pylons will scar our landscape and damage wildlife habitat forever.
Wind turbines on an industrial scale, covering 1,000 square miles of Mid- Wales, will only produce 4% of the Welsh renewables target.
£ Rip Off
Wind farm subsidies go directly onto our electricity bills, they are forecast to rise by 40%.
The tourist industry and local businesses that rely on tourism will suffer.
Each turbine will be as tall as the London Eye and will require concrete foundations the size of an Olympic swimming pool. Peat uplands will be damaged and the run off could vastly increase flooding.
Property price crash
Affected properties will lose up to 40% of their value.
Farming, land & livestock adversely affected by the pylons and wind power infrastructure.
Coaches are planned to leave from Four Crosses 7am, Welshpool 7.15 am, Newtown 8am and Llanidloes 8.45am.
10:30am Coaches arrive in Cardiff and drop passengers at the Millennium Centre, Cardiff Bay, adjacent to the National Assembly Of Wales – Senedd building.
11:30am National Assembly of Wales, Senedd Building Cardiff Bay – Greet Nick Larder, Richard Jones and the walkers who set off from Welshpool on Thurs 19 May.
12:00pm – 1:30pm Key speakers including Glyn Davies MP, Russell George AM and TV presenter Sian Lloyd. Regional Assembly Members from Mid & West region have been invited to speak from Labour, Plaid Cymru and the Lib Dems. Petitions from the County Times, Conservation of Upland Powys and People Against Pylons presented to the Welsh Assembly Government with a letter to seek a review of the TAN 8 policy on windfarms. | Children from Montgomeryshire will present turf from the Mid Wales uplands to all Mid and West Wales Assembly Members. | Choir.
