Information Meeting on Industrial Wind Turbines, February 18

Lowell Mountain Group

(Lowell, VT) The Lowell Mountain Group is hosting an information meeting on industrial wind turbines on February 18 at the Lowell Graded School, from 7 to 9 pm. This is a rescheduling of the meeting planned for January 28th that was cancelled because of weather. The meeting includes a panel of speakers and the opportunity to ask questions about issues that keep coming up in rural communities where industrial wind projects have been sited or proposed.

There will be four speakers:

As experience and problems with industrial wind installations grows, government bodies and health organizations are starting to weigh in. The North Carolina senate voted 42 -1 recently to ban wind turbines on the state’s scenic western ridgelines. In September 2009 the Maine Medical Association adopted a resolution regarding wind power development and public health. In France, a decision issued by the Court of Appeal of Rennes, Dec. 1, 2009 ordered the eight wind turbines installed in Cast, Châteaulin and Plomodiern be stopped from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. In Vermont, with at least five industrial wind power installations under consideration, including one in Lowell, Rep. David Potter from Clarendon recently introduced a bill that would put more controls on wind development [1].

The Lowell Mountain Wind Group is hosting this information meeting to ensure that residents of Lowell and the surrounding towns understand why dozens of communities across America and elsewhere are questioning existing and proposed industrial wind installations. Attendees will also learn why countries that have been leaders in industrial wind are cutting back subsidies and limiting the amount of power generated from wind turbines. All are welcome and encouraged to bring questions.
