Shap wind turbines: Gamesa should withdraw and go away

David Maclean

Penrith and the Border MP David Maclean has reacted quickly to the Advertising Standards Agency upholding complaints about grossly misleading information from Gamesa relating to the Shap wind turbines.

Commenting from Westminster he said, “We all knew locally that Gamesa were grossly exaggerating their claims and in some cases were simply lying to the public. It is quite clear that the claims the company have been making about the benefits of their wind turbines in Shap are not true and cannot be substantiated. That is the finding of the independent Advertising Standards Authority. I now call on Gamesa to withdraw their planning application, leave the people of Shap alone and do not try and con any more communities. I trust that all Members of the District Council will see this report and realise that a company which would make such outrageous claims on behalf of this application cannot be trusted to get planning permission for any development which affects our precious Cumbrian landscape.”
