Governor asks EFSEC to reconsider Kittitas project

Residents Opposed to Kittitas Turbines (ROKT)

ROKT Friends,

Good news! The Governor today sent the recommendation for the KVWPP [Kittitas Valley Wind Power Project] back to EFSEC [Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council] asking them to resolve the setback issue to see if the project can be made viable with greater setbacks.

She also mentions that local sentiment is important to her and that she prefers not to over-ride local land use authorities.

We have attached the letter that was sent to EFSEC. … We think there will be a EFSEC Conference call soon where we will hear if there will be public meetings and a public comment period.

In closing, we want to say, the Governor has heard our voices, listened to them and reacted! If it weren’t for your letters, phone calls, petitions and donations, we would not be here today, we would be sitting in the midst of a wind farm! We cannot thank each and everyone of you enough.

It is not over yet, but there are some big smiles on our faces and hope has returned!

Thank you,
The ROKT Team

ROKT’s legal expenses are paid for by donations, which are greatly appreciated. Please make your check to “ROKT” and send it to ROKT, PO Box 1680, Ellensburg, WA 98926. If you wish to be removed from this email list please contact me (reply to this message).

[Editor’s note: The last sentence of Governor Gregoire’s letter is encouraging: “Please note that I am very mindful of the cumulative impacts of wind power projects in Kittitas County and will continue to evaluate this issue.”]
