Friends of Rollins Ridge
Friends of Rollins Ridge will meet Thursday, October 9 at 6:30 pm at the Masons’ meeting room at the Town Hall. Friends of Rollins Ridge was formed recently as a citizens’ advocacy group to address issues concerning First Wind’s plans to build a wind generation industrial site on the ridges surrounding the Lincoln Lakes.

Founding of the European Platform Against Windfarms (EPAW)
In Paris today, on the occasion of the international demonstration against wind farms, German, Belgian, Spanish and French federations and associations have founded the European Platform Against Windfarms (EPAW).
This project has received the support of colleagues from 16 countries representing several hundred federations and associations.
The founding members of this platform have agreed to make the following declaration:

Puketiro wind farm proposal changed
Greater Wellington Regional Council announced today that it has decided to revoke the permission granted to wind farm developer RES New Zealand Ltd to locate three turbines in the Battle Hill Farm Forest Park. The three turbines were part of a proposed Puketiro wind farm – a development of about 50 turbines located in the Greater Wellington-owned Akatarawa Forest and possibly on adjoining private land.

76 wind turbines planned
RES Australia has revised its plan for the number of turbines to be constructed as part of the proposed Ararat Wind Farm, determining that the site has the potential for 76 wind turbines.
The site of the Ararat Wind Farm is located seven kilometres north east of Ararat — north and south of the Pyrenees highway. The total site area will cover 5,272 hectares, although the project’s infrastructure is expected to be contained in area which is less than one percent . . .

Governor Doyle announces regional initiative focused on wind energy support
From Governor’s Office: Governor Jim Doyle and four other Midwest Governors announced Thursday the creation of a regional transmission planning effort that will promote regional electric transmission investment and cost sharing.
The Upper Midwest Transmission Development Initiative will identify wind generation resources, transmission projects and infrastructure needed to support those resources in a cost-effective manner.
Over the next 12 months, participants will determine a reasonable allocation for the costs of the region and will lead . . .

Storm of protest over plans for wind factory in AONB
Local residents in Stainmore have been devastated to learn of plans by a Cheshire based company to site a wind factory close to the Moudy Mea telecoms mast and within the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The proposal, for a minimum of 12 × 125metre (410 ft) turbines, would destroy a unique, irreplaceable and tranquil environment with devastating consequences for both people and wildlife, according to protesters.

Countryside Campaign Welcomes Bickham Moor Windfarm Decision
The Devon Branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) today welcomed the decision by Mid Devon District planning committee to oppose the proposal to erect four huge wind turbines at Bickham Moor between Knowstone, Rackenford and Oakford.

Renewable generation gets boost from law changes
Unnecessary barriers to electricity lines companies investing in renewable generation have been removed by a Bill amending the Electricity Industry Reform Act passed in Parliament today, Energy Minister David Parker said.

Cumbrian wind gains strength
The go ahead for one of the UK’s largest offshore wind farms to date will be announced by the Prime Minister today, in a speech to business leaders.
The 500MW West of Duddon Sands wind farm is planned near Walney Island off the coast of Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria and will comprise of up to 139 turbines. The developers, Morecambe Wind Limited, estimate the wind farm could provide the equivalent of around 372,000 homes with clean, green electricity. . . .

Crown makes submission on Meridian Energy’s North Island wind farm proposal
The Crown has made a submission on Meridian Energy’s wind farm proposal in the Central North Island, Environment Minister Trevor Mallard said today.
Since changes were made to the Resource Management Act in 2005, the Crown has been able to make a submission on an application for a resource consent that the minister considers to be of national significance. This allows the government to have input into local decision-making processes, while leaving the decision and hearings to be made locally. . . .
