German utility RWE has signed a contract with a Polish wind farm project developer to build 150 MW of capacity in three projects, it said late Friday.
All three are still in the early phase of development and RWE expects to obtain official approval for them from 2011. The CEO of RWE Polska Filip Thon said: “By 2012, RWE will invest one billion euros ($1.28 billion) in renewable energy projects per annum. I am glad . . .

According to the protesters, various investors plan to build up to 400 windmills in the area — the Czech and Polish side of the Orlicke hory mountains.
They say the construction of up to 200 metre high windmills would go against the character of the landscape.

EuroTrust, the European wind-power producer, has entered into an agreement with Agrowind, a Danish wind-farm developer, to develop 400MW worth of wind-farm projects in Poland.
The agreement is the first major development since the company disposed of its property development division at the end of June to focus on its wind-energy business.
Agrowind will be responsible for all pre-construction activities, including acquiring all necessary permits and arranging grid access.
EuroTrust will then take ownership of the projects when they are ready for construction . . .

Farmers from northern and western Poland have been signing agreements for leasing their land to wind farms on unfavourable terms and conditions, writes Nasz Dziennik daily. A contractual penalty for early termination of each of such lease agreements is almost a million zlotys, or 300,000 euros. Additionally, the agreements ban farmers from constructing any buildings in the vicinity of the windmills constructed on their land, Nasz Dziennik informs.

In recent years, renewable energy has been playing an increasingly important role in Poland and other countries. Its share in the total volume of electricity generated in the European Union has grown as a result of efforts to counteract global warming and increase the EU’s energy security.
This policy is reflected in the Polish government’s plans for the development of power generation based on renewable sources. By 2010 wind power is expected to account for 2.3 percent of the total volume . . .
