Rural Municipality of Portage la Prairie has got wind of advances on a wind power project near Macdonald, about 32 kilometres northwest of Portage.
At a council meeting on Tuesday, councillors approved a variation order to adjust the positioning of a test tower at the site near Macdonald. The tower was too close to the property line, according to the RM’s zoning bylaw.
Reeve Toby Trimble said it’s good news to hear the idea of wind power . . .

The Winnipeg skyline may soon have a distinct feature that would stand as tall as the Richardson building.
The province and The Forks are considering building a wind turbine if community consultations and wind-monitoring tests prove successful.
“It’s really exciting,” said NDP Energy Minister Jim Rondeau. “There’s about 50 wind turbines around the province, and it would be very exciting to have one in Winnipeg.”
Rondeau said a wind turbine in the heart of Winnipeg would be . . .

Jim Rondeau, Manitoba’s science, technology, energy and mines minister, has proposed an amendment to legislation that would simplify registering for wind turbine easements and title searches.
The proposed legislation would amend the Federal Real Property Act by adding a further easement category that would permit a title to be issued for that interest in land for wind turbines. Currently, titles can be issued under the act for pipeline easements related to the operation of a pipeline. . . .

Sequoia Energy Inc. says its proposed wind farms near Killarney, Miami and Elie would produce enough energy to power 100,000 homes.
The company must still get the stamp of approval from Manitoba Hydro in order to develop the wind farms and sell the energy.

www.cbc.ca
The Manitoba government plans to build enough wind towers over the next two years to quadruple its wind-generated power, Energy Minister Dave Chomiak announced Thursday.
The province, along with Manitoba Hydro, hopes to add 300 megawatts of wind power to the province’s energy grid — enough power for 100,000 homes.
That could mean up to 160 more windmills, although newer and evolving wind turbine technology could make that number smaller.
Chomiak said the province and Manitoba Hydro will . . .
