Dangers of wind turbines
This letter concerns John Broom and Martha Sorohan’s front page article on the Wind Turbine Project, “Blowing in the Wind?” in the June 26, 2008, Courier.
A member of Presque Isle Audubon Eagle Watch Team, Ripley, N.Y. Hawk Watch, and Hawk Migration Association of North America, I am concerned that this project will be very bad for Conneaut’s people and the migrating and resident wildlife. I was looking to purchase a home in Conneaut, but . . .

Wind project still blowing around
Additional wind energy proposed for the Bowling Green area last year will at best be delayed and at worst not occur at all.
“It’s really at a standstill right now,” said Kevin Maynard, director of utilities for Bowling Green. “At this point there does not appear to be anything active on the project, but we certainly are looking at additional wind energy whether it is here in Bowling Green or elsewhere.”
The project is in the feasibility . . .

Wind vies to be next energy source
Is the next big industry coming to this part of Ohio already blowing in the wind?
Some people are saying that the development of wind energy could provide incredible growth in manufacturing jobs in the state and provide landowners with the chance to catch the wind as a cash crop.
At a meeting last week in Paulding sponsored by the Ohio Farm Bureau (OFB), Dale Arnold, OFB director of energy services, laid out the facts to interested . . .

Wind turbines would be located in wetlands area
Wind turbines proposed for a portion of the East Conneaut Industrial Park would occupy land that now contains wetlands, not property earmarked for commercial growth, interim City Manager Edward Somppi said Thursday.
“We wouldn’t involve the good, developable land,” Somppi said.
City officials continue to talk with representatives of SRG Sites Associates of Willoughby, which wants to buy at least 159 acres of the 286-acre park and market it to a company that would install wind turbine . . .

Joseph Mayernick, executive director of Growth Partnership for Ashtabula County, was one of those invited in the closed-door meeting along with Ohio Rep. Deborah Newcomb (D-99).
According to Mayernick, officials with SGT Site Associates . . .

CONNEAUT — Residents raised questions Monday night about City Council’s closed-door discussions regarding the possible sale of industrial park land to a company interested in creating a wind turbine farm on the site.
Negotiations are proceeding, but the matter is still very tenuous, members said.
“I’m trying not to get my hopes raised,” said Councilman-at-Large Chris Castrilla, council pro tem who convened Monday’s meeting in the absence of Council President James Jones. “If it generates revenue, I’m . . .

Local wind farm project not expected to be affected by company’s financial losses
A sharp drop in stock prices and investor confidence in the global giant Babcock & Brown could have worldwide impact for the business, but a company spokesman said Friday it should not affect plans to develop wind turbines in eastern Logan County.
Stock for the multinational company fell more than 50 percent on the Australian stock market in the last three days of the week, prompting a syndicate of 25 banks to consider reviewing a . . .

Residents get look at wind farm; Project moving to state officials
For the first time since talk of wind turbine development began in West Central Ohio several years ago, residents of Logan and Champaign counties got to see a close visual representation of the controversial structures.
The designs, which included a map showing 78 proposed turbine locations — 15 in Logan County and the remainder in Champaign — and several photos superimposed with scale wind turbines, gave the 100-plus residents who milled through Everpower Renewables’ open . . .

NORTH LEWISBURG — EverPower Renewables Corp. is making progress on a proposal that would eventually dot Champaign County with wind turbines, but in the meantime, residents got a chance to ask questions about the project.
On Tuesday, June 10, dozens of residents filed into Triad High School, seeking information on the proposal that, if approved, would place between 120 and 150 wind turbines along a ridge that runs along the east side of Champaign County. While . . .
