Dong Energy abandons attempt to place wind turbines in Kappel
It took the Kappel Group 5-1/2 years of exhausting struggle – but it has been worth it! Friday 27 January 2012: Dong Energy* has confirmed that they have abandoned their immense wind turbine project of 40 MW in Kappel. Kappel citizens and the many summer home owners in the area can now breathe a sigh of relief and no longer fear having their sleep and health destroyed by wind turbine noise. Obstacles to Danish wind power
COPENHAGEN — During howling winter weather two years ago, the thousands of windmills dotting Denmark and its coastline generated so much power that Danes had to pay other countries to take the surplus. The incident was the first of its kind, and lasted only a few hours. Low temperatures were an aggravating factor, because Denmark’s combined heat and power plants were also running full bore and generating a lot of electricity. Since then, there have been just two more instances . . .
Q&A: Low frequency noise from wind turbines
The Environmental Protection Agency has revised the Statutory Order on Wind Turbines to include limit values for low frequency noise. The new limit values applies to turbines for which applications are made after January 1st 2012 where the new statutory order entered into force. Kæmpevindmøllerne – en dødssejler [Giant wind turbines – a non-starter]
Turbine test centre delayed while court mulls case
Interest groups want to sue environment ministry for not properly assessing environmental impact of test centre The environment minister Karen Ellemann and the Danish Nature Agency have decided to postpone the felling of trees in the Østerild dune plantation until after the High Court has decided whether local land-owners can raise a case against the ministry. The first stage of tree felling was recently completed despite local and foreign environmentalists protesting against the destruction of 1,500 hectares of forest to . . .
If Gov. Jerry Brown wants to “crush” opponents of wind energy, he’d better pack a lunch
Last week, California Gov. Jerry Brown declared that he would “crush” citizen groups who oppose large-scale renewable energy projects. Well, governor, here’s some advice: you’d better pack a lunch. The global backlash against the energy sprawl that comes with renewable energy projects is growing and it is fierce. Brown’s comments, made during a speech at the University of California, Los Angeles, were aimed at citizens who oppose a large solar project in San Luis Obispo. But solar remains a relatively . . .
T. Boone’s windy misadventure and the global backlash against wind energy
Three years ago this month, T. Boone Pickens launched a multi-million dollar crusade to bring more wind energy to the US. “Building new wind generation facilities,” along with energy efficiency and more consumption of domestic natural gas, the Dallas billionaire claimed, would allow the US to “replace more than one-third of our foreign oil imports in 10 years.” Those were halcyon times for the wind industry. These days, Pickens never talks about wind. He’s focused instead on getting a fat . . .

Activist bitten by police dog
The Danish police begins to shows its true face in Østerild. Two activists were arrested Thursday morning in Østerild Klitplantage in Thy, Denmark. One was bitten by a police dog. Activists went through a police bar. Police dogs were sent into the area, and one of the activists had superficial scratches, as the dogs stopped him, a police spokesman said .
