The Boone County Board is considering a zoning ordinance that would permit wind turbines as close as 1,000 feet of adjacent property.
That is a far cry from the current setback of 2,000 feet, which after numerous meetings of the Zoning Board of Appeals, three Boone County Board meetings and two years of litigation in the 17th Judicial Circuit Court, was deemed reasonable given the limitations to aviation, crop dusting and quality of life of adjacent property owners.

This was the fourth in a series of public hearing held by Logan County Zoning Board of Appeals. Horizon Wind Energy has requested conditional use of parcels zoned agriculture where the turbines would . . .

Equal limitations were also given for closing arguments, which the board still has not been able to hear. Another hearing was scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, so both sides can give public . . .

Iberdrola Renewables has proposed the Streator-Cayuga Ridge South Wind Farm, which would be spread across 15,000 acres in between Odell and Emington. Hearings that stretched over weeks ended Thursday with Iberdrola’s closing arguments and a review of possible special conditions to be attached to the project recommendation.

Construction on the $300-million Big Sky wind farm in southeastern Lee and northern Bureau counties is on hold for at least 10 months, thanks to a problem its supplier is having with faulty turbine blades.
The 13,000-acre, 114-turbine project near Ohio was slated to be online by the end of this year, but blades nearly the length of a football field started cracking on some U.S. wind farms early this year.
Big Sky builder, Edison Mission Energy, has therefore opted to wait . . .

Logan County Engineer Brett Aukamp has possibly been one of the hardest, neutral-party workers since Horizon has filed for a conditional-use permit to begin constructing its wind turbines.

The board has discussed ways to respond to the input – mostly in opposition to the proposed El Paso wind farm —including having board Chairman John Krug refer issues to the appropriate public official or board committee for an answer.
The dilemma prompted a veteran board member Tuesday to take the public input microphone himself.
“I believe the Woodford County Board was better before public input was allowed,” Ken Uphoff . . .
