Council passed an official plan amendment at its June meeting to make formal all the rules for wind turbines.
There was only one person who addressed council the day it made its decision. Gary Pundsack, of Energy Wind Canada, told council his company has been planning for wind energy in Mapleton since 2004. “I’m very keen to get started,” he said, noting that phase one . . .

“It is an obstacle and a hurdle that we need to overcome,” said Margaret Murphy, spokeswoman for the utility.
On Wednesday, NSP asked its regulator, the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board, to step in and allow seven wind projects that won renewable energy contracts from the company this spring, to jump the queue . . .

BC Hydro is asking power producers to submit proposals that collectively will add up to 5,000 gigawatt hours [GWh] of clean or renewable energy per year, enough to power 500,000 homes.
The prospect has wind generation proponents, and the sector’s advocacy group, Canadian Wind . . .

Councillors made the changes during the previous night’s meeting after a spirited debate.

Both letters imply that the Innisfil Wind Watchers, who are opposed to this project, are not concerned about climate change and our need for renewable energy and a greener future.

Setbacks — or minimum distances from a structure or site — have been a source of controversy since wind energy companies first showed an interest in the municipality.
Tom Storey of Storey Samways Planning provided a report with recommendations and comparisons to other centres with turbines.

Business, July 9
This article on the proposed wind turbine project in Innisfil was misleading. The height of the proposed towers is not 100 ft. but will be well over 350 ft. This project does not have the support of Innisfil council or most of its residences. This is not a case of NIMBY; it is a case of “not in anyone’s backyard.”

Environmental groups and renewable energy experts say the changes would put the brakes on a recent upsurge in renewable power projects in the province and could have dire affects on the burgeoning “green” power industry in Ontario.
“[The existing program] is attracting a lot of investment internationally in the province in the area of renewable energy so it’s very important that the . . .

Held at Tantramar Regional High School, the open house information meeting was hosted by Acciona Wind Energy Canada Inc., the company responsible for the project to construct a 64.5-megawatt wind farm comprised of 43 wind turbines near Aulac.
Acciona had representatives readily available to answer questions or concerns from community members . . .

Canadians prefer Democratic presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama over Republican candidate Senator John McCain by an approximate margin (averaging the results of three public opinion polls published in the past month) of three to one. Canadians prefer Mr. Obama, in other words, by a wider margin than Americans do. This means that proportionately more Canadians will be inevitably disappointed by an Obama presidency. For one thing, some of Mr. Obama’s promises will be essentially impossible to keep.

Both messages yesterday were clear: the stunning growth in wind power across North America is just getting started, and not everybody is happy about it.

Yesterday, a citizens group called the Innisfil Wind Watchers met with members of the local media to express concerns over a proposed set of wind turbines that would be operated by Schneider Power. Town officials expect to host a public meeting on the turbines in September.
If approved, five 120-metre high turbines would be built on a 200-acre stretch of agricultural land between the 5th and 6th lines, near . . .

Schneider Power Inc. wants to build five 80-metre tall turbines with 40-metre long propellers, which will generate electricity for the local hydro grid.

The Innisfil Wind Watchers are trying to whip up interest about the project, which would build five, 390-foot-high turbines on 200 acres of agricultural land on the highway’s east side.
Group members say its the wrong location for a project of this size.
