Residents say no to wind farms

Anti-wind farm campaigners in Northamptonshire have hit out at government plans to place more turbines across the countryside as part of a new green energy strategy. Planning rules will be reformed and a new government office will include residents’ opinions when it looks at the best and worst sites for wind farms. Government energy secretary Ed Miliband said wind farms must become accepted as a necessary part of Britain’s energy sector and added turbines “have to go somewhere”. There are . . .

Protests taking wind out of turbine plans

Protests against wind farms across the Northamptonshire countryside appear to be working, with none of the five wind farms proposed over the last four years coming close to being built. The proposals affect the areas of Yelvertoft, Brixworth, Naseby, Harrington and Bozeat, on the county border with Bedfordshire. The longest-running proposal has been for Bozeat and nearby Lavendon and Harrold, where Npower submitted plans to build a 12-turbine farm nearly five years ago. Campaigners were granted some respite earlier this . . .

Runway extension sees end of wind farm plans

Campaigners against a four-turbine wind farm near Brixworth were delighted to hear the extension of the runway more than five miles away at Sywell Aerodrome has led to the withdrawal of the plans. The extension of the airport to allow larger aircraft to use it has led to the perimeter preventing high-rise development to be widened. The extension means two of the turbines planned by Bolsterstone Innovative Energy to be closest to the A508, could be within a few metres . . .

Planning application for wind turbine withdrawn

Protesters campaigning against a wind farm being built between Brixworth and Hanging Houghton have been granted some respite after the planning application was withdrawn. But it is thought the issue will return, as rumours suggest that developer Bolsterstone Innovative Energy could submit another application for four turbines, reducing the number by two since their last application. Bolsterstone withdrew plans to build six 125-metre turbines near the A508 at Brixworth last Wednesday. Celebrations of campaigners were short-lived after they heard that . . .

Brixworth Parish Council fears the six 410ft-high wind turbines proposed between Brixworth and Hanging Houghton on the western side of the A508 would be noisy and ruin views in the village. The concerns were raised at a meeting of the council at the end of last month, which was attended by about 70 worried residents. A representative from developers Bolsterstone Innovative Energy was also there . . .
