Gayton wind farm group set for final stand on Sunday

Opposers of a proposed wind farm between four Wolds villages will mark the end of the consultation by flying a blimp at the turbine height.

Energie Kontor have applied to East Lindsey District Council to erect eight 115 metre high turbines between Great Carlton, Gayton le Marsh, Saltfleetby and Theddlethorpe.

And consultant of opposition group NOWAG (No Wind Farm at Gayton) Melvin Grovenor, will fly a blimp this Sunday, September 11, at 115m in a final move to show local residents just how the wind farm will affect them.

Mr Grovenor told the Leader: “Weather permitting we will fly this blimp in an effort to show the impact the turbines will have on the wolds. This is industrialisation by stealth as power lines and more pylons will be needed to carry the power away.”

Energie Kontor say over 9,000 homes will be powered by the 20MW site which would dwarf the 87m turbines 5km away in Mablethorpe.

Project Manager Richard Hind said: “The energy from the project would be connected and used locally and could produce enough electricity, per year, for over 9,000 East Lindsey homes.

“We consider that the proposal should be seen as acceptable, especially when our future sustainable energy requirements are considered.”
