Bill proposed would make windmills on piers easier
TRENTON — A state Senator is introducing a bill that would lift a ban on energy facilities within 500 feet of the mean tide line, making it easier for wind energy to be built on piers, a report in the Press of Atlantic City said.
State Sen. Jeff Van Drew (D-Cape May), who sponsored the bill, told the newspaper the windmills are needed if the state is serious about fighting global warming. Currently, regulations only allow power plants that use the water for cooling to be built near tidal waters, according to the report.
