Wind turbines refused planning permission

A planning application for eight wind turbines on land near Yelvertoft was turned down by councillors last night (Wednesday).

Daventry District Council’s planning committee decided to follow advice from their planning officers that Your Energy’s proposals for the Yelvertoft Wind Farm would have a negative impact on Stanford Hall and its registered parkland. In particular they used photomontages to show the turbines would be visible from one of the garden’s tree-lined avenues.

Planning officers told the committee that, in their judgement, the proposed turbines would not create excessive noise, pose a health risk, nor significantly damage the local landscape.

Your Energy told the committee that 80 per cent of wind turbine applications turned down by local authorities on the grounds of cultural heritage, as in this case, were then allowed following an appeal. The company also questioned throwing out the application based on the impact to views from a building several miles away.

However, councillor Andrew Harris pointed out that the Garden History Society expects planning applications to be refused where masts would be visible from the end of tree avenues.

For more, including reactions to the councillors’ decision, see the Daventry Express on Thursday, December 3.
