Wind turbines appeal goes public

A public inquiry is to be held on plans for a wind turbine scheme near Yarm.

Hambleton Council refused a revised planning application by Broadview Energy in September for two 125 metre high wind turbines at Hilton Road, Seamer.

Campaigners have vigorously opposed the £15m development with concerns over visual impact, potential consequences on the roads and effects on wildlife.

Stockton Council has already approved three turbines and the associated infrastructure within its administrative area in July.

Broadview Energy said a three-turbine wind farm will be operating by the second half of 2010 on land between the villages of Seamer and Hilton. The power company has also appealed to the Secretary of State for the Environment against Hambleton’s refusal.

The planning inspectorate has now agreed that a public inquiry will be held at 10am on March 29 at Northallerton Civic Centre.

Anyone can attend and, at the inspector’s discretion, take part in the discussion.

Jeffrey Corrigan, managing director of Broadview Energy said: “This is a costly and time-consuming exercise for us as well as for Hambleton Council, which we would have wished to avoid.”

Any written comments on the original refusal should be sent asap to: Ms Deb Smith, The Planning Inspectorate, Room 4/04, Temple Quay House, 2 The Square, Temple Quay, Bristol BS1 6PN, quoting reference APP/G2713/A/09/2114490/NWF.
