Protesters warn of wind turbine 'dominoes' danger
Half of the villagers attending a public meeting were unaware of plans to build wind turbines near their homes.
A meeting, organised by action group Stop the Spin, took place at Crick Village Hall on Thursday last week to discuss plans for wind turbines at sites near Yelvertoft, Watford, Lilbourne and Winwick. The turbines, if they go ahead, have been described as reminiscent of the film War of the Worlds.
There are proposals to put five 126.5m high turbines at Watford, eight at both Winwick and Yelvertoft and 12 at Lilbourne.
At the meeting a show of hands revealed 50 per cent of the people who were there were unaware of the plans.
Adrian Snook, chief executive of Stop the Spin, said: “In a sense the current applications at both Swinford and at Yelvertoft are like dominoes in a chain stretching across the county. If either succeeds against the wishes of local people then the rest of the schemes will probably succeed too. The metal towers will march across the landscape like a scene from War of the Worlds and we can all look forward to living in one huge wind farm, stretching from Kelmarsh in the east to the hard shoulder of the M1 in the west.”
