Harwich signs accord for two turbines
HARWICH — Selectmen signed a 180-day contract with the Cape and Vineyard Electric Cooperative for what could eventually be the installation of two 1.5 megawatt wind turbines on a parcel of land in North Harwich. The board on Monday heard from Town Administrator James Merriam and Utility and Energy Conservation Committee Chairman Barry Worth, who strongly supported the action.
An estimated 69 percent of the turbine’s electrical output would cover town power needs and the rest could be sold on the market. The co-op plans to apply for funding for zero interest bonds. Brewster officials last week signed a similar agreement with the co-op.
