Planning Board comments on wind law
CLAYTON — Members of the Planning Board are weighing in on the recommendations for a zoning law amendment by the town’s Wind Committee.
All but one member wrote up comments, which were not available to the public at Thursday night’s Planning Board meeting.
“I’ll send these on to the town board for their perusal,” Chairman Roland A. “Bud” Baril said. “It’s up to them what they do with them.”
He said the Town Council may want to meet with the board to ask questions on the comments.
“If somebody’s got some changes, what have they based it on?” asked Duane C. Hazelton, Planning Board alternate and member of the Wind Committee. “We were charged with having facts and scientific data.”
Mr. Baril said, “That’s a good point. I would like to see the town board ask that question. Let’s see how they react to it.”
He said he had not read through all the comments and the other Planning Board members hadn’t either.
Leslie E. Drake, member of the Zoning Board of Appeals and Wind Committee, asked whether the comments were available to the public.
Mr. Baril said not until they had been submitted to the Town Council.
“There’s nothing in there to say your board didn’t do a good job,” he said. “It’s important to read each person’s reaction. I don’t think you’re ever going to come up with a group where everyone will agree on the 16 points.”
Mr. Baril said progress continues on the town’s ad hoc committee to address small, personal wind generators and other private alternative energy devices.
“We’ve taken on the subject of wind first, but it’s been going extremely well,” he said.
