Proposed Nauset turbine concerns neighbors
As the owner of a home in the National Seashore in Eastham, close to the Nauset Regional High School, I have joined neighbors, concerned parents, part-time homeowners, pet owners and property owners who feel our safety and health are being threatened by the proposed turbine for the high school.
We have been told by the town that the school will be required to meet town zoning for a proposed 343-foot turbine — not a 75-foot turbine — as only then will it be able to get the necessary wind speed. The school has even gone as far as stating it is not part of Eastham and exempt. The school claims it will save the taxpayers money. How?
Principal Thomas Conrad has stated that the school uses $200,000 in electricity per year — failing to say the cost is shared with all the regional towns. He also states the turbines will be for educational purposes. There are turbines being built in Wellfleet away from residences — why would they not be used?
This proposed turbine just makes no sense at all. Until the school administration can show the benefit to the community, money we spend on our electric bills shouldn’t be financing studies.
