Blimp will show height of turbines

A blimp will be flying in the skies of Black Torrington to demonstrate the height of the proposed wind turbine development at Chilla Valley.

The Chilla Against Turbines (CAT) committee has arranged the blimp to fly at 410ft on Saturday March 7 to show the height of the turbines proposed for the Moors of Chilla, Graddon, Odham and Hollow.

Torridge and West Devon MP, Geoffrey Cox will launch the balloon at 1.30pm from Windrift Farm, Beara Cross, Black Torrington.

Roy Houghton, CAT chairman, said: “While we cannot demonstrate the sheer scale of all 15 turbines blighting the landscape, we hope this event shows that these proposed turbines will be seen from miles around.”

The event is open to the public and may be postponed if there are strong winds.
