Wind farm projects on hold
WOODSTOCK — Only one day after Premier Dalton McGuinty told a London audience the province won’t allow communities to stand in the way of green energy projects, Oxford County has put a freeze on all wind farm developments until the province provides more information on the health impacts of the developments on residents and livestock.
County council directed staff this week to bring an interim control bylaw before council Feb. 25 that would place a freeze on any applications for wind energy developments until the province provides more information on the health impacts of the developments on residents and livestock.
In an earlier vote, council defeated a recommendation to approve official plan changes related to a whole swath of alternative and renewable energy developments.
Until an interim control bylaw is passed, council’s move leaves all alternative and renewable energy developments in limbo within Oxford County.
In London on Tuesday, McGuinty vowed the not-in-my-backyard syndrome won’t be allowed to stop green energy projects in Ontario and the jobs they would bring.
