Wind farm site picked
WADSWORTH — A 380-acre tract on Russell Road near the Wisconsin border could be the location of a future wind farm in Lake County.
In early December, County Board member Pamela Newton of Vernon Hills said that officials were exploring the possibility of bringing a wind farm to Lake County and that a feasibility study was planned.
On Wednesday, Sexton Wind Power of Hillside announced that it is conducting the feasibility study, which could lead to the creation of a wind farm in unincorporated Lake County about one-half mile mile east of the I-94 Russell Road exit.
If developed, the Spencer Farm Wind Project is currently expected to site no more than 10 industrial-sized turbines, which would have a power capacity between 15-20 megawatts, or enough energy to power approximately 3,000 to 5,000 average-sized homes annually, company officials said.
Information is available at the Sexton Web site, www.sextonwindpower.com.
