Wind farm simulations don't convey beauty lost

The “simulated images” of the wind farm project contained on Cape Wind’s Web site show how the turbine forest might look to the casual observer driving by.

But the Web site fails to capture the magnificence of Nantucket Sound from the vantage point of someone sitting on one of its beaches, or sailing on its pristine waters. The national audience is just a casual observer when it comes to appreciating this gift we share.

Cape Wind is riding the “clean energy” bandwagon all the way to the bank, while we who live here will spend the rest of our summers staring at a colossal eyesore.

Let’s not be afraid to acknowledge that a major reason for living on the Cape is its natural beauty. Only those who have taken the time to savor the awesome beauty of this place can comprehend the magnitude of the loss we are about to experience.

I am all for responsible alternative energy in the right place. I also think saving 25 square miles of ocean from the development of an alternative energy plant is about as ecofriendly as we can be. Is it really too late to stop this travesty from going forward? I sincerely hope not.
