Otter Tail considered for wind farm OK in North Dakota

The public has until Wednesday to ask the Public Service Commission to hold a public hearing on the Otter Tail Power portion of the Luverne Wind Farm.

The PSC had an informal hearing on the case Thursday.

Otter Tail will own and operate 49.5 megawatts of the 157-megawatt farm, to be built in Barnes and Steele counties. M-Power LLC, a local company of investors based in Finley, N.D., has the rest of the farm.

The PSC needs to decide whether the Otter Tail portion will serve the public’s convenience and necessity and whether Otter Tail is fit, willing and able to operate it.

Commission President Susan Wefald said that if no one asks for a hearing or sends other comments that need to be considered, the commission will decide in early December whether to grant the certificate of public convenience and necessity.
