Wind farm case goes to Govt
An MP has taken his campaign for a strategic approach to the region’s wind farms to the Minister for the North.
Phil Wilson, MP for Sedgefield, has written to Nick Brown, Minister for the North, concerned that 50 turbines could be built in and around Sedgefield.
Mr Wilson has also contacted local authorities in south Durham, Darlington and Teesside about the issue.
Mr Wilson said that if all current proposals go ahead 50 turbines could be built, over 100 meters tall, in an near Sedgefield and Wynyard villages.
Although not all of the applications directly concern his constituency Mr Wilson said the issue does impact on Sedgefield residents. He said “Local people do not see the boundaries between local authorities and parliamentary constituencies, when the look out of their windows, they see a landscape, where, if we are not careful, the dominant feature will be wind turbines many of which will be 125 metres high.
“There is a need for renewal energy, but it must be implemented in such away that people do not feel as though they are ignored.
“That is why I am calling on local authorities to sit down together to thrash out an overarching plan for wind farm development in the south east of County Durham and the Tees Valley.”
