Beef Tub wind farm under scrutiny
Scottish Borders Council has been recommended to object to plans for a 36-turbine wind farm near the scenic Devil’s Beef Tub.
The final decision on the proposal lies with the Scottish Government due to the scale of the development.
However, local councillors have been asked for their views on Wind Energy Ltd’s Earlshaugh project.
Dumfries and Galloway Council has already expressed “grave concern” about the visual impact of the plans.
The wind farm site is located in the Scottish Borders but lies within a few miles of neighbouring Dumfries and Galloway.
The Annandale area committee has already discussed the project.
It is now set to go before SBC’s planning committee.
‘Adverse impact’
Officials have recommended the authority oppose the plans.
They said it would have an “unacceptable adverse impact” on the landscape character of the surrounding area.
They also have concerns about the conservation and wildlife consequences of the project.
Councillors are due to meet in Newtown St Boswells to give their view of the 108MW proposal.
The Devil’s Beef Tub acquired its name from its historical use as a site to hide stolen cattle.
