Wind farm inquiry

A planning inquiry into the refusal of three wind farms in north Northumberland is scheduled to take place next spring.
Berwick Borough Council said a provisional date of April 28 next year has been agreed with the Secretary of State with regards to the Moorsyde, Toft Hill and Barmoor developments.

The council’s policy committee has agreed a budget of £200,000 to allow the authority to be adequately represented at the inquiry.

Members also agreed that officers commission specialist legal, planning and other advice and representation required.

The applications for a total of 20 turbines at the three sites south west of Berwick were rejected in March on the grounds that they would dominate the landscape.

However, in August, the Government gave the go-ahead for 18 turbines to be built at Middlemoor, North Charlton, failing to take concerns about its impact on the countryside.

Moorsyde Action Group, which is fighting the Moorsyde plan, said: “We are confident that the Moorsyde scheme will again be rejected.”
