Show us the agreement

Over the past three weeks the Shetland Times has run a very interesting article on the proposed windfarm. As far as I can see all it has going for it is money. I still cannot believe a few people can think to scar the Shetland landscape permanently and empty the coffers for money. I fail to understand how they can put a figure on the returns to the community (ranging from £18-30 million) when nobody knows what the cost will be to create this monstrosity. No estimate can ever be accurate, especially in these times of escalating prices. A few per cent over budget would be a lot of money! The cost can only be known when the job is finished

Now the Viking Energy spin doctors are off to London to meet generator manufacturers and cable producers. Is this another nail in Shetland’s coffin? Is it already too late? As far as I’m concerned the time has come for the Shetland people both for and against the project to be told the truth. Is it or is it not a done deal? If it is not, people like me who are against it need to see written proof – allowing access to the Partnership Agreement would not be an unreasonable request given the level of community funds proposed to go into the project.

To answer the question what can we do without the alleged financial return, the answer is simple. Be like anyone who is on a fixed income – look at how to save and live within your means.
